Good people. Great Dentistry. No bull.
Your Conroe dentist since 1997
A dental office that actually feels like home
Portales Dental has been a fixture in Conroe for nearly three decades. Not because we advertise the most, but because once patients find us, they stick around. Dr. Charles Portales built this practice the same way he treats his patients: honestly, without shortcuts, and with a lot of heart. Whether you're coming in for a cleaning or a full smile makeover, you'll walk into a place that looks more like a neighbor's dining room than a dental office, and that's not by accident. That's exactly how we built it.
Meet the man behind the funky socks
Dr. Charles Portales
Dr. Portales grew up in dentistry, started work for his father, an oral surgeon, at age 11, and never really stopped loving it. He earned his DDS from UT Health San Antonio, spent two years associating, decided he wanted to do things his own way, and opened his doors in Conroe in 1997. He hasn't left. A conservative diagnostician by nature, Dr. Portales treats every patient the way he would treat his own family: with honesty, options, and zero pressure. He's also a cattle rancher, a Lego enthusiast, and according to most of Conroe, Lottie's dad.

Same-day crowns
With advanced CEREC technology, Dr. Portales can design, mill, and place a permanent crown in a single visit with no temporaries, no second appointment, no waiting.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are one of the most transformative services we offer, and Dr. Portales approaches every case with the same careful, honest eye he brings to everything else.
Crowns & bridges
Whether you need to restore a single tooth or replace a missing one, Dr. Portales has spent nearly three decades perfecting the kind of restorative work that lasts.
Cleanings & preventive care
Great dentistry starts with a great cleaning and a hygiene team that genuinely cares about keeping your mouth in the best shape possible for the long haul.
Why patients drive across Conroe to see us
Not your average dental office
There are a lot of dentists in Conroe these days: strip-center chains, corporate groups, rotating providers you'll never see twice. Portales Dental is something different. It's a freestanding practice that Dr. Portales designed himself, a team that's been together for years, and a doctor who will sit down and talk to you like a neighbor rather than pitch you from behind a fancy consult desk.
An office that feels like home
Seriously. Dr. and Mrs. Portales drew the floor plan on an IHOP napkin over breakfast and had it built the way they wanted: like a home. The lobby has tables and chairs and a coffee bar. It doesn't smell like a dental office. That's the point.
Dr. Portales runs on time
He considers punctuality a matter of respect. If he's five minutes early, he considers himself late. You will not be sitting in the waiting room wondering where your afternoon went.
Conservative care you can trust
Dr. Portales will always try the least invasive option first. He gives you honest options, tells you the risks, and lets you decide. He is not going to recommend something you don't need.
Advanced technology, zero attitude about it
CEREC same-day crowns and CBCT imaging in a practice that still has a coffee bar. The technology is here to serve you, not to justify a higher price tag.
Love Where you Live
Community Eateries We Love
We love supporting our community, and sharing our favorite small businesses with our neighbors. Ask about them at your next visit!
Lottie's Shivers Shaved Ice
Right next door to our office, you'll find one of Conroe's favorite spots, Lottie's Shivers Shaved Ice, run by our very own Lottie Portales. She's been serving up shaved ice since she was five years old, and eleven seasons later, the line still wraps around the block. We share a parking lot, a last name, and a belief that the best businesses are the ones that make people feel something. Come for the dentistry, then grab a snow cone!
A gift for new patients
Complimentary teeth whitening
Every patient at Portales Dental receives complimentary teeth whitening with Philips Zoom. It's not a gimmick. Dr. and Mrs. Portales just believe in taking care of their people, and a brighter smile is a pretty good way to say welcome.
